Fatima Prayer Community

Purpose & Activities

Fatima Prayer Community is a non-profit 501-3 organization that was organized in September 1982 by Sister Joseline D. Valdes SSSF and a group of Americans of Filipino decent.  They realized the need for a Filipino based organization to serve their religious needs.

The purpose of Fatima Prayer Community for its members is to deepen their faith and spiritual life of the family by praying the rosary and sharing scripture reflections, to build a strong Christian Community among core members by prayer, love, and mutual support of one another.

Fatima Prayer Community has thirteen units and each have a Pilgrim Virgin of Fatima that travels in homes of sponsors each week for the praying of the rosary and scripture reflections.

Fatima Prayer Community accepts donations and sponsors fund-raising projects to provide assistance to the needy in the Philippines as well as in the United States.  During the  last five years, our fund-raising project was used to pay the mortgage of our Center.

The following activities take place at Our Lady of Fatima Center:

1.  The Chapel is open for private devotion during the day.
2.  There is a mass every first Saturday of the month for our sponsors.
3.  Bi-monthly council meetings of the organization are held on the first Saturday of the month.
4.  Retreats are held twice a year, one during Lent and one during Advent.
5.  Celebration of birthdays and anniversaries of members are held at the Center.  Group prayer meetings are conducted in homes every Saturdays or Sundays by appointment.
6.  In-service meetings to train Coordinators and Core members throughout the year.
7.  Fatima Prayer Community support retired nuns and victims of calamities such as Katrina in the U.S. as well as in other countries particularly the Philippines.

The following activities take place on a regular basis at our Center:

- Spiritual and psychological counseling by appointment
- Lenten journey prayer meetings
- Weekly Scripture Reflections conducted by every Unit in homes
- Seniors' Social gatherings

The outdoor shrine of our Lady of Fatima has been accomplished.  We now have a chin-link fence.  The latest project accomplished was the replacement of windows for the Center.  Our 2009 fund-raising hopes to pay for vinyl siding of Our Lady of Fatima Center building.  This is possible with your financial help.  To give a tax-deductible donation to the Fatima Prayer Community, make checks payable to Fatima Prayer Community, 1600 Rand Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
