Fatima Prayer Community

Brief History

Sister Joseline D. Valdes, SSSF, and a group of dedicated couples and persons organized the Fatima Prayer Community in September 1982.  Sister Joseline and this group realized the need of Filipinos for a religious organization that will meet some spiritual needs of immigrant Filipinos in this country.  Together they formed a Core Group and named it Fatima Prayer Group.  Later, the name was officially changed to FATIMA PRAYER COMMUNITY.  As an organization, its primary aims are:

* To promote family prayer through the praying of the Rosary and sharing of Scripture reflection.
* To grow in faith and the spiritual life.
* To build among Core members a strong basic Christian Community through prayer, love, and mutual support of one another.

Core members are those who commit themselves to weekly prayer meetings and promote the goals and objectives of the FATIMA PRAYER COMMUNITY.
Requests to host the Pilgrim Virgin of Fatima in homes have increased through the years.  It is for this reason that Sr. Joseline has initiated more Units.  A leader assigned to specific geographic area in the Greater Chicago and suburban areas coordinates each Unit.

The Fatima Prayer Community is presently composed of 13 Units serving in the Greater Chicago and suburbs.  It has a status of a non-profit religious organization with tax-exempt privilege.  Therefore all donations to the organization are tax deductible.  For Outreach programs, the FPC has adopted the Philippine Missions, giving priority to the poorest.   We are currently supporting retired Franciscan nuns in the Philippines, and victims of calamities in the Philippines as well as in this country where the School Sisters of St Francis minister.

The Fatima Prayer Community organization is governed by an Executive Council under the direction of the Board of Directors.

Ten years ago FPC achieved its dream to have a Fatima Center.  The Center was dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima, and a chapel is set-aside in her honor.  The Center hosts retreats, spiritual seminars, workshops for spiritual growth, leadership training for Core members and celebrations.  It also provides assisted living for ambulatory senior citizens, and temporary housing and referrals for the homeless.  Come and visit our Center.  The address is 1600 E Rand Road, Des Plaines, Il 60016.  Telephone number is 847-299-4325.
